Employment

Personal Trainer and Coach

Prepare for Performance | Rockville, MD

Position Summary

Our Personal Trainer and Coach works with two groups: adult members, most of them 40+, and youth athletes in our sports performance program.

On the adult side, you’ll coach small group and 1-on-1 personal training.

On the athlete side, you’ll coach small groups and teams working on speed, strength, and the movement skills that carry over to their sport.

Every adult and athlete trains on a program built for them, with a coach who knows them by name and knows what they’re working toward. Your job is to help each person get stronger, move better, and keep showing up, while making sure they feel welcome and well coached.

Schedule

This role starts at 25+ hours a week, with mornings, evenings, and weekends. There’s room to pick up more hours and 1-on-1 clients as you grow with us.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Coaching

  • Coach small group personal training sessions, keeping track of each member’s program, weights, and progress
  • Coach 1-on-1 personal training clients
  • Coach youth athletes in small group and team sessions, keeping them safe, organized, and working hard
  • Teach exercises clearly, demo when it helps, and give short cues that actually fix movement
  • Move around the floor so everyone in a group session gets coached
  • Modify exercises within our programming guidelines, and check with the Head Coach when unsure

Member and athlete care

  • Learn each person’s name, goals, sport, injuries, and anything else that affects their training
  • Complete check-ins and outreach with members and athlete families
  • Log weights, reps, adjustments, and feedback so the next coach is up to speed

Before and after sessions

  • Review programs and notes, and set up equipment
  • Keep the floor clean, organized, and reset between sessions

Team and growth

  • Attend weekly team meetings and take part in coaching feedback
  • Stay current on certifications and keep learning
  • Send questions to the right person: programming to the Head Coach, and scheduling, billing, and membership to the GM or admin team

Minimum Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, kinesiology, or a related field

Experience

  • At least 6 months of personal training or coaching experience
  • Experience coaching adults 40+, beginners, or youth athletes

Benefits

  • Ongoing coaching education and mentorship from our Head Coach
